Evidence and source limits
The FDA-hosted Linzess prescribing information revised May 2026 identifies linaclotide as an oral guanylate cyclase-C agonist. It lists irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in adults and children seven years and older, chronic idiopathic constipation in adults, and functional constipation in children two years and older. These are different labeled indications, not a universal digestive-health claim.
The label carries a boxed warning about serious dehydration in children younger than two years and contraindicates use in that age group. It also contraindicates use with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction and warns that diarrhea can be severe.
This note describes the named prescription product and label, not the safety, approval or effectiveness of a compounded or research product. It provides no dose, treatment instructions or buying links. A licensed clinician must assess the specific diagnosis, age and risks.
