Telangana drug safety authority warns against unapproved weight-loss drugs and peptides sold online
TG SAFE's October 14 public advisory names retatrutide, orforglipron, tesamorelin, BPC-157 and GHK-Cu, and says 'research use' labels do not make unapproved products safe or legal to use.
TG SAFE, the drug safety authority of the Indian state of Telangana, issued a public advisory dated October 14, 2026 warning people against buying or using unapproved weight-loss drugs and experimental peptide products. The notice, issued as Press Note No. 41/TG SAFE-Drugs/2026 and posted on the authority's official X account on October 15, names unregulated websites, online marketplaces, social media and messaging platforms as channels to avoid when purchasing such products.
The advisory names five specific products: retatrutide, orforglipron, tesamorelin, BPC-157 and GHK-Cu. TG SAFE said sellers may market some of these for research purposes, but labels such as "Research use" or "Not for Human Consumption" do not make them approved medicines and are not proof of safety.
The authority said it cannot guarantee the safety, effectiveness or quality of these unapproved products, and cautioned that injectable products in particular may cause contamination, infections and serious adverse reactions. It advised people to consult a qualified registered medical practitioner before taking any medication and to use only approved medicines obtained through authorised channels.
The advisory also addresses prescribers directly: TG SAFE urged registered medical practitioners to follow regulatory requirements and said doctors should not procure, prescribe or administer unapproved drugs in violation of those rules. The authority published a helpline, 1800-599-6969, staffed 10:30 am to 5 pm on working days, for reporting illegal drug sales to its Drugs Wing.
This brief reports a dated public advisory from a state drug regulator; it is not a recall, not proof of harm from any specific product, and not a finding about regulated pharmacy channels. It is safety information, not medical advice, a treatment recommendation, or a buying guide.
